Where do I start?..............Moved to a small town in 2015, after losing our home in the Canterbury earthquakes, after purchasing a 100 year old Hotel. This was my dream!
November 2016 the Kaikoura quake hit, and my dream died. The building was red stickered, and then a S124 Notice issued. Since then I have lived in a small mobile motorhome, then a poartacom and now in a small constructerd room inside an old shed onsite, right beside our beautiful old building.
Six months after the quake we managed to get a small business built on the same site, which has its challenges daily, being a small building and trying to provide at least half of the servies we used to provide to customers. Winter comes around, and the struggle is triple time to keep us above water.
Now we have just been issued a Final S124 Notice from the Council. I have looked at many different options but cannot find a light at the end of the tunnel................. Going back to the quake.........We had just upgraded our insurance and was paying $2000 a month, yet we were to realise that this did not cover Natural Disaster damage. We were paid for the shell of the building only, no business interruption, stock or plant cover. Then a few months prior to opening the small business we built from what funds we had, we were told that the lawyer had failed to take out $70,000 in GSt and owed that. So now we had to pay for the new small building as well as the GST on the damaged building. So this has put us back $280,000 in total.
The loan is coming to an end in Dec, and we now have the Final S124 Notice to sort. I cant sleep properly as I am constantly trying to find a way to fix this, but Im at a loss. I even had a demo guy come in the other day, to see if there was a possibility of giving the building to a Demo company with all salvage to offset costs. The last thing we want is the Council to come in and do this. The demo guy said, she is such a big building and blah blah blah, so my heart sank again.
I really wish the Council would come and see us and discuss this with us, as it feels they have wiped their hands of us. Especially after we were told that a person from the Council had already told a local that the building would be demolished (and this was over a year ago he said this), which is our personal info, and he should not be talking to locals about this.
Life is extreme, I have no idea where to go from here!
